(10) What are the conditions for which an IP gets medical certificate from his Insurance Medical Officer for claiming cash benefits and for sanctioning leave by his employer?

IP is eligible to get a medical certificate from his Insurance Medical Officer for the following events.

  1. Sickness :-  As per Section 2(20) of ESI Act, sickness is defined as the    condition which require medical treatment, attendance and necessitates  abstention from work.  The Insurance Medical Officer can issue a  certificate only when both these conditions are satisfied.
  2. Employment Injury:-  Employees who suffer employment injury or  occupational disease, he is eligible to get a medical certificate
  3. Confinement:-  For a period of 84 days of which not more than 6 weeks  shall precede the expected date of confinement.
  4. Miscarriage:-  for a period of 42 days.
